I Was Erased. This Is How I Rebuilt.

And why I now do what I do.

I’m not a writer. I’m not a storyteller.
I live in my truth, and I speak from it.

This is my story — the one I never asked to live, and the one I now choose to share. Because divorce isn’t just a legal process. It’s a total emotional collapse. A breaking. A rebirth.

And no one teaches you how to survive it.

The Day My Life Changed

After 20 years of building a life together, of memories of marriage, I was left.
Suddenly. Completely. Without warning, without conversation, and without any attempt to save what we had built.

Three children.
A new country.
A life I didn’t choose.

One day, I was someone’s wife.
The next, I was erased.

From “us” to nothing.
No transition. No closure. No kindness. Just… gone.

A new person walked into my life and took my place.
My pillow on my bed.
My seat at my table.
My entire identity — replaced.

And there was absolutely nothing I could do about it.

The World Closed In

As if that wasn’t enough, we were in the middle of COVID. The world locked down.
No flights.
No family visits.
No hugs.
No face-to-face conversations.

Just silence.
Just survival.

I was isolated. I was grieving. I was trying to protect my children from a world that had completely collapsed — while quietly collapsing myself.

I remember lying on the floor, gasping through sobs, wondering how I would ever get up again.

Then I’d hear the front door.
I’d wipe my tears.
I’d smile.
I’d pretend.

Pretend that everything was okay.
Pretend I had it together.
Pretend dinner was ready — when I hadn’t eaten in days.

That kind of pain rewires you.
It changes your soul.
It breaks you open in places you didn’t even know existed.

My Children, My Anchor

The only thing that kept me going was my children.
They were my anchor.
My reason to keep breathing in a world that had become unfamiliar and terrifying.

I didn’t know what came next.
I had no roadmap.
No one to guide me through what would come emotionally, legally, financially, practically.

And no expert could hold me while I broke.
No lawyer could soothe the panic.
No therapist could tell me — step-by-step — how to survive this.

What I needed was emotional support from someone who had lived it.
Someone who could look me in the eye and say:
“I’ve been there. And I made it. You will too.”

Rebuilding from Rubble

So I decided to become that person.
Even while I was still bleeding, I knew I wanted to give meaning to the pain.

I studied divorce law and mediation.
I became the first certified divorce coach in South Africa.
Because I knew I wasn’t the only one.

Because I knew others would need a voice in the dark.
Someone to walk with them through the grief, the shock, the fear, the unknown.
Someone to help them rebuild — practically, emotionally, legally, financially, parentally — all of it.

This Is My Purpose

All I had known — my dreams, my husband, my home, my future — disappeared overnight.

So I rebuilt.
I redreamed.
I relearned.
I rewired.

And now I offer that strength to others.
Because you don’t have to go through this alone.
Because you are not broken.
Because you are becoming.

If you’re in the midst of your own divorce story — I see you. And I’m here.

Whether you need guidance, clarity, or just someone to hold space for your truth, reach out. You’re not alone.
